Oradea City Hall and winsedswiss education group (WEG) have taken the initiative of opening Romania’s first academy in the field of hospitality, named ohma by winsedswiss which will organise courses under the license of VET by EHL (École hôtelière de Lausanne)/WEG.
Starting this autumn, young people interested in developing a career in the hospitality industry will be able to attend ohma’s VET by EHL/WEG programmes, at the end of which they will receive internationally recognised certificates and diplomas.
Oradea City Hall will provide the necessary material basis for the functioning of the school within the “Partenie Cosma” Economic College, the post-secondary courses being organised by the educational unit, while the curriculum, instructors, pedagogical principles and methodology will be supplied by winsedswiss education group.
VET (Vocational Education and Training) by EHL is a programme aimed at young people interested in a qualification in the field of hospitality, based on the Swiss competency framework.
“During the past ten years, decisive steps have been undertaken in Oradea for the development of the dual or technical education system, with the opening of new industrial parks. Simultaneously, the city secured considerable grant funds for boosting tourism, increasing the number of tourists with 40% compared to 2014; indirectly, this has been helping the hospitality industry in Oradea.
We find ourselves today at the point when our destination takes the decisive step towards developing dedicated hospitality education, thus answering a growing need for qualified personnel, which has become apparent during the past years. The partnership with the most significant hospitality training institution in the world is a vital step in increasing the quality of Oradea’s hospitality industry services and, at the same time, an excellent opportunity for young people and adults both to certify their passion or their job with the most prestigious school in the world. Oradea City Hall, together with WEG and Oradea’s hospitality industry, will undertake all necessary steps that this hospitality academy will become the most important hospitality educational hub in this part of Europe and an additional new element in the city’s development,” declares Mihai Jurca, executive director of the Association for Promoting Tourism in Oradea and the Region.
“We start from the principle of the Swiss dual education system, namely that education must be applied, that theoretical concepts must have correspondence in practice, that they can be immediately used by students outside the classroom, in educational projects carried out both in school and, more importantly, in cooperation with the business environment. We wish that through our investment in quality education we can contribute to the redeployment of the hospitality industry, which has been hard tried by the current crisis, and we are convinced that the partnership with one of the most dynamic cities in Romania will be an example of beneficial collaboration between the public and private sectors, as we aim to develop this pilot project at national and international level, says Professor Ray F. Iunius, Chief Executive Officer winsedswiss education group.
Thus, at the end of the 18 months of intensive theoretical and practical training in the three VET by EHL modules, the graduates of our hospitality academy will benefit from the necessary training for taking up specialised positions in the field, as the internationally-recognised certificates and diplomas will be door-openers to fantastic career opportunities anywhere in the world.
At the same time, the completion of this programme will provide graduates with level 4 and 5 qualification degrees as recognised by the Ministry of Education and Research.
Another asset of this programme is access to quality education and training, thanks to instructors who are experienced professionals in the industry and who have a specific certification issued by EHL allowing them to teach and engage in practical and theoretical activities.
The students will benefit from integrated career services provided by WEG, an important component of the educational programme aimed at counselling them from the learning phase until their integration into the labour market, by identifying potential jobs and internships.
The VET by EHL offers four types of Professional Diplomas: Kitchen, Service, Rooms and Hotel Administration.
Young people eager to obtain the full Professional Diploma of the VET by EHL Programme will go through three independent modules, each lasting six months, corresponding to the preparatory stage: Foundation > Intermediate > Advanced. Those who already have experience in the hospitality industry will be able to register directly for the intermediate or advanced modules, without going through the beginner or/and intermediate modules, by equivalence of this prior experience. All content is developed by EHL in Switzerland and delivered in a modern technology driven way. Each of the modules is certificate bearing.
The courses of the programme will start in autumn, being aligned with the calendar of the school year; the first half of the schooling period serves to accumulate theoretical and practical knowledge, while during the second half young people will apply the acquired notions and improve their skills within an internship performed with an economic operator in the field of hospitality.
The VET by EHL programme will be in English, with the course support in Romanian as well. The students will also take a British Council-certified intensive English language course.
